Rasi Seeds has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (ICAR-IGFRI), Jhansi, to enhance the availability of quality forage seeds for India’s dairy sector.
Under its dedicated forage brand, Sira Seeds, Rasi will commercialise two high-yielding varieties of berseem and oats, aimed at bridging the country’s fodder gap, improving livestock nutrition, and supporting the vision of White Revolution 2.0.
The MoU was formalised in the presence of R. Rajendran, Managing Director of Rasi Seeds, and N. Saravanan, Business Head of Sira Seeds, along with Dr Pankaj Kaushal, Director of ICAR-IGFRI, and Dr Vijay Kumar Yadav, Project Coordinator (Forage Crops), AICRP on Forage Crops and Utilisation.
India currently cultivates more than 2.5 million hectares of berseem and oats, yet demand for nutritious green fodder continues to outstrip supply. The partnership is expected to make superior winter forage seeds more accessible, enabling dairy farmers to boost productivity and reduce feed costs.
“Through this collaboration, we are committed to bringing scientifically proven, high-performing forage varieties to farmers,” said Rajendran. “Our focus through Sira Seeds will be on addressing the shortage of quality forage and empowering the dairy community.”
Aligned with the national push for sustainable and science-driven agriculture, this initiative is expected to deliver improved milk yields, enhanced animal health, and better livelihoods for millions of dairy farmers across the country.
